AL HARTHY AND CANNING JOIN FORCES FOR OMAN RACING WITH TF SPORT’S GT OPEN DEBUT
Oman Racing with TF Sport brings champion-filled line-up to Spa Francorchamps, for the penultimate round of the 2020 International GT Open. Reigning Blancpain Endurance Series Pro Am Champion Ahmad Al Harthy, will be joined by 2019 British GT GT4 Champion Tom Canning, in the #97 Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT3.
With both drivers’ original full-season GT3 plans turned upside-down due to the global pandemic, the pairing recently announced their 2021 Asian Le Mans Series entry, alongside Jonny Adam, and are now taking advantage of guest races to prepare for the quadruple four-hour battles in Asia.
Al Harthy and Canning were victorious at their previous visits to the Ardennes. Al Harthy took a superb win at the 2019 Total 24 Hours of Spa, alongside Salih Yoluc, Charlie Eastwood and Nicki Thiim. Full season entrants Yoluc and Eastwood currently sit third in the GT Open standings, in their #34 Vantage, with four races remaining.
It was a dramatic GT4 win for Canning in British GT’s European excursion last year, which propelled the youngster towards taking the series honours, with team mate Ash Hand. This weekend will see Canning make his competitive GT3 debut.
Tom Ferrier, Team Owner - “It’s great to have Ahmad and Tom competing together in the GT3 ahead of their Asian Le Mans Series charge, in January. They are both proven racers around Spa, so I’m eager to see what they can achieve together this weekend.”
Ahmad Al Harthy, #97 - “I’m really looking forward to being back racing after so long away and I’m delighted we’ve chosen International GT Open, in which to make our first competitive appearance of the year.”
Tom Canning, #97 - “It’s been over a year since my last race, so you could say I’m a little excited for this weekend! What better way to make my debut in GT3 than alongside the reigning Spa 24 Hours winner, at the famous Belgian circuit and with two of this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans winners as my team mates?!”
