WATSON COMPLETES D’STATION RACING’S FIA WEC TRIO
D’station Racing completes their 2021 FIA World Endurance Championship line up, with Northern Irish silver-graded driver Andrew Watson. Watson will compete in the #777 D’station Racing Aston Martin Vantage AMR GTE alongside Satoshi Hoshino and Tomonobu Fujii, in all six rounds of the WEC, including the 89th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The 26 year old is no stranger to the British marque, having raced the Vantage GT3 in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup’s Silver class, taking one win and two podium finishes. Watson also competed at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, the Total 24 Hours of Spa and stepped onto the podium at last year’s Bathurst 12 Hour.
Watson made his WEC and 24 Hours of Le Mans debut last season, scoring a third place finish at Bahrain and is now aiming to return to the podium in the D’station Racing with TF Sport machinery.
Due to WEC’s opening round at Portimão being recently postponed, the season’s Prologue and first race will now take place at Spa Francorchamps, with Portimão being moved to June 13. The 24 Hours of Le Mans has also been postponed, now to the 21-22 August, this has been done in hope that the championship can welcome spectators to the event, with the necessary heath precautions in place.
The WEC Prologue will now be on the 26-27 April, with the Total 6 Hours of Spa Francorchamps taking place on May 1.
Tom Ferrier, TF Sport Owner - “We have been watching Andrew in GT racing over the last few seasons and have been impressed by his progress, so it’s great to have him on board for D’station Racing’s WEC debut. Andrew Watson, Silver driver - “It's really exciting to have the chance to join D'station Racing and TF Sport! When you combine their professionalism, expertise and ambition, it's a perfect fit. It's great to be back on the WEC grid for a second season, to continue building my experience and helping to deliver a successful debut campaign for D’station Racing. I'm also looking forward to continuing to work with AMR. I'd like to thank everyone at D’station Racing and TF Sport for this incredible opportunity, which I’m very grateful for. I will be working hard to deliver strong results for the team and to build this relationship further into the future."
Tomonobu Fujii, D’station Racing Team Managing Director - “We are looking forward to working with Andrew for our 2021 World Endurance Championship program.
